City Council to Disuss Mask Mandate

Ashley you spoke with the mayor earlier today --- what does he believe the council will decide?

Decatur mayor tab bowling told me he's pretty confident that the council will ultimately vote to go along with the state and let the city's mask ordinance expire on april 9th .i spoke to people who live in decatur today as well who told me they also feel like that's the decision the council will come a decision on the cities mask mandate isn't expected to be voted on tonight....but a lot of what is discussed tonight will play a role on what the council will vote on during next week's city council meeting mayor bowling says the council wants to make a decision before april 9th....which is when the state's expires.

He says right now he feels like it should be an individual's choice if they want to wear a mask or not...and people i spoke with who live in decatur agreed..

Mayor tab bowling, mayor of decatur: "as for me and my family, we'll likely continue to mask whenever we go into certain environments, but i believe it's a matter of personal responsibility at this point."

Jerell kearse, lives in decatur: "i think it's up to people's preference whether you think it's good or not to wear a mask, i think i should wear a mask, i just want to be safe.

The vote is expected to take place during next week's city council meeting....no matter what decision people will still have to wear a mask in federal buildings and public transit because of a federal mandate still in place.
