The deadline for federal employees to get vaccinated against COVID-19 is upon us.

22, a senior White House official told CNBC that by the end of the day, .

Over 90% of the 3.5 million federal workers will have received at least one shot.

The official also said that the "vast majority of those employees" are fully vaccinated.

There has been a 95% compliance rate regarding either getting vaccinated or filing for an exception or extension.

For the remainder of the workforce, an "education and counseling process" is being started by government agencies.

Agencies are advised to spend five days educating the noncompliant, at which point suspensions of up to 14 days may be issued if they continue to reject vaccination.
