New Orleans Hit With Most Intense Tornado Since 2017

One day after a tornado system devastated 16 counties in central Texas, the New Orleans metro area was hit with similar storms, with winds estimated to be between 150 and 200+ mph.

According to the Enhanced Fujita scale that is used to measure tornado intensity, this tornado was the most intense to hit the New Orleans area since 2017.

Though the city’s center was largely spared from damage, parts of neighboring St.

Bernard Parish were hit particularly hard.

At least one resident in that parish was killed in relation to the storms, per the AP.
