It’s the end of an era as the last payphone in New York City was removed on Monday.
Payphones used to be a ubiquitous symbol of urban NYC (among other cities), but grew increasingly obsolete with the rise of LinkNYC kiosks, a network of thousands of charging & WiFi stations that replaced traditional phones beginning in 2015.
