In a meeting between White House officials and baby formula manufacturers on Wednesday, President Biden admitted he didn't initially understand how much of an effect the Abbott plant closure would have on baby formula supplies in the U.S. but stressed the Abbott closure was necessary to protect American babies from contaminated formula.
Since the shortage began, Biden has invoked the Defense Production Act in the hopes of helping manufacturers more speedily increase supply of formula.
