'The Independent' reports that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has said that despite calls for him to step down, he will finish his Senate term.

The statement from McConnell comes after a recent bout of "freezing" spells that afflicted the 81-year-old senator at two separate speaking events.

When asked by a reporter for the "precise medical reason" for the incidents, McConnell pointed to the official report by Dr. Brian Monahan, the attending congressional physician who said dehydration may have played a role.

According to the report, the doctor conducted , “several medical evaluations: brain MRI imaging, EEG study and consultations with several neurologists for a comprehensive neurology assessment.”.
