On this day 35 years ago, Barry Humphries’ friend, Australia’s roving cultural attache, Sir Leslie Colin Patterson, joined the long and distinguished list of Wilkie Medal winners. The Wilkie is the highest award of the Anti Football League, an organisation founded in response to Melbourne’s overwhelming obsession of football and the winner must destroy a football in a unique and creative manner on receiving their medal.
