Internet of Things Inc (CVE:ITT) (OTCMKTS:INOTF) announced the development of ThermalPass, a new fever detection system designed for public spaces during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The device instantly screens for higher-than-normal body temperatures with an accuracy of 0.36 degrees Fahrenheit, thus identifying possible carriers of the coronavirus. If ThermalPass machines are stationed at the entrances of high-traffic public locations, they can potentially help reduce the risk of further spread. Prototypes are currently in advanced development for pre-commercial testing this month, and the company expects to launch the product in June. READ: Internet of Things names entrepreneur Michael Lende new CEO to capitalize on group's unique capabilities Most fever-detection equipment requires an individual to be stationary, the company said, but ThermalPass works even with people in motion in high-volume settings. It uses 19 infrared thermal-grade scanners, which trigger an audio and visual signal when a high body temperature is detected. "COVID-19 has impacted virtually every aspect of society, and we envision the implementation of ThermalPass across various public settings, including entrances to bus and train stations, schools, retailers, office buildings and sports venues," CEO Michael Lende said in a statement. "While ThermalPass, once commercial, intends to have an immediate positive impact in alleviating further spread and secondary outbreaks of COVID-19, we also anticipate its widespread installation as necessary in the containment of all fever-bearing contagions in a post-COVID-19 world." ThermalPass is set to be the first product produced a joint venture between IoT subsidiary AI Labs Inc, which owns 51%, and Commersive Solutions Corp. The joint venture combines IoT’s technology assets with Commersive’s end-to-end product development capabilities and retail market reach. "We are very excited with our joint venture with AI Labs as we have complementary skills and expertise that will assist in commercializing ThermalPass,” Commersive president Jason Elmaleh said. “With ThermalPass, we see a tremendous opportunity to deliver a much needed and integrated system that we believe will deliver a solution that the world needs now.” Commersive has already had discussions with clients that have expressed intereest in the product, Elmaleh added.
