Markets extend gains: Sensex, Nifty hit fresh closing highs

Equity indices finished higher for the fifth straight session on Tuesday as both the BSE and NSE scaled fresh closing peaks, amid positive global cues. After scaling an intra-day high of 47,715, the 30-share BSE index rose 259 points or 0.55 per cent to finish at 47,613; while the broader NSE Nifty settled 59 points or 0.43 per cent to close at 13,933.
