American Airlines raises its forecast of second-quarter profit, citing strong revenue, cheaper fuel

American Airlines says it will report a bigger profit than it was previously expecting for the second quarter, which includes the kickoff of the summer travel season. American said Wednesday that revenue will be higher and the cost of jet fuel will be lower than it predicted back in April. The outlook covers the quarter that runs from April through June. It follows a busy Memorial Day weekend for the nation's airlines. American now says it expects to earn between $1.45 and $1.65 per share for the second quarter. That's 25 cents a share better than it predicted back in April.
