Stock market today: Asian shares mostly decline after Nasdaq ticks to a record high

Asian shares have retreated even after most U.S. stock indexes finished higher, especially technology issues like Nvidia. Indexes in Japan, Australia, South Korea and China fell in Tuesday trading. Oil prices also were lower. U.S. stock indexes drifted to a mixed finish after a quiet day of trading, and the Nasdaq composite rose to another record, climbing 0.7%. The S&P 500 edged up by 0.1% to finish just short of its all-time high. The Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped 0.5%. Nvidia, one of Wall Street's most influential companies, reports quarterly results later this week.
