In February 1958, large crowds lined the route from Melbourne airport to Government House to catch a glimpse of the British Prime Minister, Harold Macmillan, and his wife Lady Dorothy Macmillan. The Macmillans, on the Victorian leg of their Australian tour, waved to the appreciative crowds from an open car.
