Thursday, 6 August 2020 Amid rising number of Covid-19 cases, the epicentres of the infection are shifting from major towns to neighbouring districts and newer states. In recent weeks, districts like Solapur, Thane, Nashik, Palghar, Surat, Jalgaon and Dakshin Kannada have seen the highest number — more than 1,000 each — of containment zones.

As the national capital's Covid-19 case tally crossed the 2.53 lakh-mark, Delhi's health minister briefed the media about the situation regarding hospital beds. Satyendar Jain revealed that Delhi currently has a little over 15,800 hospital beds, of which 7,051 are occupied. This means that around 55% of Delhi's hospital beds are still unoccupied. However, Jain clarified that some private hospitals are facing issues regarding beds, especially in the intensive care unit (ICU). Commenting on the Covid statistics, he said that Delhi's daily positivity ratio was at 7%, according to the 7 days' moving average. This was lower than the 8.5-9% which was being seen recently. RORO is Multimodal service that ensures seamless transportation of goods from one place to another. It will transport essential commodities between agriculture mandis of Bengaluru and Solapur. Roll-On-Roll-Off (RORO) service is hassle-free, environment friendly, services for the truck operators and industries.
Karnataka Chief Minister, BS Yediyurappa flagged off 'Roll-On Roll-Off' (RO-RO) train on August 30. The train service has been started from Bengaluru to Solapur in Maharashtra. The CM was accompanied by other cabinet ministers. The loaded trucks are moved on train wagons for cargo.
A group of youth, who were unemployed due to lockdown, now started to earn around Rs. 60,000 per month by utilizing training camp of ICAR Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Dakshina Kannada under Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University, Bidar. The training program on 'friends of Coconut Tree' (FoCT) was conducted for 200 rural unemployed youth, for climbing coconut tree using advanced equipment. Six days training given them and familiarized them with all aspects of coconut cultivation. Dakshina Kannada district possess 21,772 hectare area of coconut with production of 31,8594 thousands nuts.
An elephant calf, Shivani was seen enjoying with water after her naming ceremony was held at Sri Manjunatha Swamy Temple, Dharmasthala in Dakshina Kannada in Karnataka. Elephant calf was born on 1st July 2020. Authorities informed that the animal is healthy and loves to play with water.
Four fishermen went missing after a boat they were travelling in, capsized at Kodeti in Karnataka's Udupi district on August 16. A total of 11 fishermen were on board, out of which seven have been rescued. Speaking to media, the Circle Inspector of Byndoor, Suresh Nayak said, "A total of 11 fishermen were on board the boat, out of which seven have been rescued. The incident occurred while fishermen were returning back after fishing due to high tide." The rescue operation to locate other fishermen is underway. The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) on August 15 issued warning over weather conditions in several parts of Karnataka including Uttara Kannada, Udupi and light to moderate rains likely over Dakshina Kannada district.
Tensions between the Shiv Sena and actor Kangana Ranaut continues to rise. In the latest, Shiv Sena IT cell has filed a complaint against the actor over her ‘Mumbai-PoK’ remark. The complaint has been filed at the Shrinagar police station in Thane. Shiv Sena and the actor have been at loggerheads since the actor tweeted that she was more scared of the Mumbai police than the movie mafia and drew an analogy with PoK. On Monday, Kangana posted another video on Twitter claiming that officials of the Mumbai civic body BMC were at his office and wanted to demolish it. Kangana Ranaut, who has been provided Y-plus category security by the Home Ministry, is all set to reach Mumbai on 9th of September. Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh and Sena Leader Sanjay Raut had earlier said that Kangana has no right to live in Mumbai after her comments on the city and their police force. Different parts of Maharashtra face severe waterlogging and flood-like situation following incessant heavy rainfall. Waterlogging was seen in Vandana Cinema area of Thane district in Maharashtra. There is flood-like situation near Upvan Lake of Thane due to continuous downpour. India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted-'Generally cloudy sky with Heavy rain' in Thane on August 06. Speaking to ANI, the Municipal Commissioner of Thane, Dr Vipin Sharma said, "Thane Municipal Corporation area has been receiving very heavy rainfall since past 3 days, received 149 mm rainfall on August 05. We are alert. Assistant and Deputy Commissioners, Fire Brigade are on field." "I appeal to residents to not step out of houses unnecessarily," he added.
A strange incident from Maharashtra's Nashik came to light where two bodies were allegedly swapped accidentally by relatives on August 29 after bodies were handed over and relatives were availing ambulance services. "The exchange happened while relatives of both families were availing of ambulance services. No indication of an error on our part," informed Medical Officer, Civil Hospital.
A leopardess gave birth to four cubs inside a hut in Igatpuri area of Nashik on Tuesday. “Female leopard gave birth to four inside a hut in Igatpuri. They are all safe and healthy. We are waiting for the leopardess to take cubs to another place. Due to cubs, we cannot catch the leopardess now,” Ganeshrao Jole, Forest Department Officer said. He informed that leopards are present in big numbers in Igatpuri area. The clip shows the four tiny cubs wandering around the hut. The mother leopard is seen sitting in a corner licking her fur.

A Leopard gave birth to four cubs on August 18 in Maharashtra's Nashik. She gave birth to the cubs in a hut made on a farmer's land. The cubs were seen playing with their mother and also making an attempt to escape from the hut. Nashik, Forest Department Officer said, "All four cubs are healthy and irrespective of complaints from villagers no attempts are being made to move them as cubs are 'newborn.'
At least one person died, and three were seriously injured after a fire broke out at the factory of Nandolia Organic Chemicals in Maharashtra's Palghar on August 17. Fire tenders are on spot to douse the flames. Further details are awaited.
Heavy rain lashed parts of Mumbai on Wednesday, disrupting normal life. Neighbouring Thane and Palghar districts of also saw heavy showers. Water entered the state-run J J Hospital in the Byculla area as the rain continued to pound through the day. Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray asked the Mumbai municipal corporation to stay on high alert in the view of more rain forecast for Thursday. Teams of NDRF have been stationed at many places to deal with any eventualities. Indian Meteorological Department has predicted intense rainfall in Mumbai for the next 48 hours. CM Thackeray has also asked people to stay indoors and venture out only for essential work. He took stock of situation and asked BMC to coordinate with police, railway authorities and NDRF. Thackeray directed authorities to monitor situation arising out of disruption of uprooting of trees, waterlogging.

A Surat girl has been appointed as regional ambassador for India by the United Nations Environment Programme -Tunza Eco-Generation. 17-year-old Khushi Chindaliya has always been interested in nature and environment conservation. "Environment researchers and activists need to facilitate educated conversations. We need to see how we can frame policies that will help nature conservation. Common people should be made aware of the environmental issues," said UNEP Regional Ambassador, Khushi Chindaliya. The appointment will help Khushi spread awareness on the safeguard of environmental treasures. She will get the opportunity to discuss the subject with other ambassadors of the world. This will also give her a platform to discuss India's contribution to nature conservation.

To celebrate the 70th birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a bakery in his home state of Gujarat has made a cake weighing 771 kg, and 71-foot long. Named 'Cake for Corona Warriors', the cake is an ode to corona warriors who are helping the country in its battle against the deadly virus, said Nitin Patel, owner of Breadliner bakery in Surat.
