An Iyengar votes for an Iyengar at this Purulia gram panchayat, 1900km from Tamil Nadu

A small village in Purulia is not where one would typically expect to see someone from the Tamil Iyengar community. But here, at this village that's abuzz with talk of panchayat polls, around 55km from the district headquarters, there's some 50 voters - all long-time residents - who hail from this Vaishnavite Brahmin community. The political fervour has been triggered by Ramanuj Achari, an Iyengar, who is seeking re-election as an independent.
