Air Pollution: Farmer held in in southwest Delhi’s Chhawla over stubble burning

A farmer in southwest Delhi's Chhawla has been arrested for stubble burning, reportedly the first such instance. The farmer's neighbor filed a complaint after their tube well pipe was partially burnt during the incident. The farmer, Om Prakash, was charged under the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Stubble burning is not common in Delhi, as farmers mainly cultivate two varieties of Basmati rice with soft stubble used as cattle fodder. Delhi government has sprayed PUSA bio-decomposers over 5000 acres of paddy this year.
