Madhya Pradesh: Villagers poached tiger for 'magical' whiskers, 11 held

Eleven people were arrested in Madhya Pradesh for poaching a tiger using an electric wire trap. The incident occurred in the South Shahdol division near Ghorve and Shahi of Lafda Beat. The villagers resorted to extracting the tiger's whiskers before disposing of the carcass. The tiger fell victim to the snare while it was set up to poach wild boars. The villagers believed the tiger's whiskers had mystical powers. The suspects were charged under the Wildlife Protection Act.
