The Congress government in Chhattisgarh had hoped to gain support by offering a higher paddy procurement price. They promised Rs 2,500 per quintal to farmers, but the BJP countered with promises of purchasing every grain produced by farmers under MSP and offering 1 quintal more per acre. The Baghel government supplemented the Centre's MSP with an agriculture input subsidy and paid Rs 2,500 per quintal to over 24 lakh farmers.
