The high court sentences VP Ravi, a farm labourer, to life imprisonment for murdering his live-in partner Kamala in Alekkadi, Kodyakand, Dakshina Kannada district. The incident occurred on December 29, 2013, when Kamala refused to cook food for Ravi at 2am. The trial court initially acquitted Ravi of the murder charge but convicted him under section 304 (part-2), imposing a five-year jail term and fine. The division bench modifies the order, citing evidence of severe assault and strangulation by Ravi, and the weak physical condition of Kamala, who weighed about 34-plus kg. The government, represented by Sullia police, challenged the verdict.
