Supreme Court issues notice to Lok Sabha secretary general, but won't stay Mahua expulsion

The Supreme Court Wednesday agreed to examine Trinamool Congress leader Mahua Moitra's plea challenging her expulsion from Lok Sabha on grounds of "unethical conduct" and sought the Lok Sabha secretariat's response. But, it refused to stay the expulsion to allow her to participate in LS proceedings during pendency of the case, reports Amit Anand Choudhary. Appearing for her, senior advocate A M Singhvi said the principle of natural justice was violated in the hearing before the LS ethics committee and also in the proceedings of the lower House which decided to expel her.
