AMU is national, not of a particular faith: Centre

The Union government has informed the Supreme Court that Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) cannot be considered as an institution of any religion or religious denomination as it has a national character. The government argued that AMU, like Banaras Hindu University (BHU), is of national importance and therefore cannot be classified as a minority institution.
