A team of scientists from the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) has discovered that radioactivity concentrations in the air, water, and land surrounding India's current nuclear power plants are not only minimal but also fall below international discharge limits. This discovery can strengthen India's commitment to advancing its nuclear power program safely, aligning with its long-term goal of reducing dependence on fossil fuels. The recent publication in the journal ScienceDirect acknowledges that while nuclear power plants release some radioactivity into the environment through various pathways and forms, the levels observed are within acceptable limits.
