Former Union minister Milind Deora had planned to join NCP but dropped the idea after being denied accommodation in Rajya Sabha. Deora joined Shiv Sena, ending his family's association with Congress. Congress ally Shiv Sena refused to concede the Mumbai South Lok Sabha seat to Deora, leading him to join Shiv Sena. An NCP leader said it would have been possible to accommodate Deora in NCP when Ajit Pawar had raised a banner of revolt against the leadership of his uncle Sharad Pawar and staked claim on the party and symbol.
