Jordan- Foreign minister, Romanian counterpart talk ties, Mideast issues

(MENAFN - Jordan News Agency) Amman, Apr. 4 (Petra) -- Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi received, on Sunday, the Romanian Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu.The two ministers discussed means to enhance and develop bilateral relations and the distinct and growing partnership between the two friendly countries.The two ministers also discussed regional and international developments of common interest, the forefront of which was the Palestinian cause and the efforts aimed at launching serious and effective negotiations to resolve the conflict on the basis of the two-state solution.In joint press statements, Safadi welcomed his Romanian counterpart on "his first visit to the region since he took up office last year and following the COVID-19 pandemic, which imposed great challenges on all of us," stressing commitment to cooperation and joining efforts to address its consequences.On today's visit, the minister said it came to complete the ongoing bilateral discussions and dialogues to enhance cooperation in various fields, saying that the two sides are basing this effort on a strong base of cooperation that has been cemented over many years.The two ministers agreed to continue taking practical steps that enhance cooperation between the two countries in the economic, investment, energy, agriculture and defense fields, Safadi stated, adding that they have signed a number of agreements that will provide a legal frameworks that enables this cooperation to continue."We also spoke about the need to find prospects that allow the private sector in the two countries to build on the strong friendship that binds us, and work towards convening the Economic Cooperation Council meeting and coordinating other meetings between the private sectors in the two countries," Safadi pointed out.On regional issues, Safadi said, "We have discussed regional issues, the foremost of which is the Palestinian cause. I would like to laud Romania's firm position in supporting the two-state solution as a means to achieving the just and comprehensive peace that we all want. Romania's positions are also evident in its ongoing support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA)."Talks also covered the situation in Syria and the efforts that aim to resolve all regional crises, as the two officials agreed on the need for further coordination and work to solve such crises and achieve security and stability that allows prosperity for the people.Safadi underlined that Jordan, under the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II, will continue to work with Romania to develop this friendship, and to ensure that these relations are reflected in greater cooperation that brings benefit to the two friendly countries and contributes to the efforts to achieve security and stability in the region.During the meeting, the Romanian Foreign Minister Aurescu said, "Jordan's stability is vital to the security of the region. The bilateral relations between Jordan and Romania are based on a solid base of trust and friendship." He pointed to the 56 years of friendship between Jordan and Romanian, pointing also to the areas of cooperation that Bucharest intends to consolidate with Amman."The talks with Safadi reflected the distinguished bilateral relations and the ability to expand cooperation in important areas such as agriculture, food security, energy, as well as information technology," Aurescu added, congratulating Jordan on it centenary.Work is underway on a number of joint projects to boost trade exchange, he noted, expressing that his country is looking to expand cooperation in the economic field, and to convene the joint economic council, thereby reflecting the positive development in bilateral relations.On the Palestinian issue, the Romanian Foreign Minister underscored that his country supports all efforts aimed at resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and achieving peace on the basis of the two-state solution, stressing that Romania asserts the status of Jerusalem in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions.He also voiced Romania's support for the Jordanian efforts in this regard, including the Jordanian effort within the Munich Group initiative, which brings together Jordan, Egypt, France and Germany, lauding the importance of this effort aimed at achieving peace and finding a permanent and just solution to the Palestinian issue.
