25 al-Shabab rebels killed in Somali army drive

(MENAFN) On Monday, Apr. 13 the Somali National Army (SNA) declared its elite troops (Danab) killed a number of 25 al-Shabab rebels and wounded several others in a drive at Gambole around 48 km to Jowhar town, the administrative capital of Hirshabelle State. The forces will increase sting drives in the region to get rid of the extremists held responsible for insecurity in the area, stated Hassan Mohamed Osman, acting commander of Danab. The troops conducted the drive after receiving intelligence reports regarding the existence of the rebels in the Gambole area who were plotting to conduct terror activities in the region, said Osman to SNA Radio. Al-Shabab rebels did not make any remarks on the most recent military attack on its fighters carried out by the Somali commandos thus far, but the drive comes as allied forces have promised to conduct joint security patrols before of the holy month of Ramadan which starts on Tuesday.
