Jordan- FM, Sudanese counterpart talk cooperation

(MENAFN - Jordan News Agency) Amman, Apr. 15 (Petra)- Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, discussed with his Sudanese counterpart, Maryam Al-Sadiq Al-Mahdi, ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in various fields.Talks also went over regional developments and efforts aimed at strengthening Arab collaboration In facing common challenges and serving Arab causes, according to a ministry press statement.Speaking over phone on Thursday, two ministers affirmed their joint keenness to translate the "historic, fraternal" relations between the two countries into "broader" cooperation in the economic, investment, agricultural, health, tourism and cultural fields.The duo agreed to start preparing for the joint committee meeting to set "clear" action programs to increase bilateral cooperation.Moreover, the two ministers stressed the solidarity of the two countries in facing all challenges.Safadi stressed Jordan's solidarity with Sudan in the process of democratic transformation, while Al-Mahdi stressed the importance of the roleand efforts led by His Majesty King Abdullah II in promoting security, stability and serving Arab causes.In this context, Al-Mahdi lauded the Kingdom's stances in support of Sudan in its regional issues and its march in democratic progress, to achieve development, increase economic growth and meet the aspirations of its people.The two ministers stressed the importance of strengthening joint Arab action to face challenges, solve regional crises, and strengthen institutional cooperation frameworks that contribute to achieving comprehensive regional development.Emphasizing the centrality of the Palestinian cause, the ministers said the two-state solution, which embodies the independent Palestinian state on the June 4 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international law and the Arab Peace Initiative, is the only way to achieve a just and comprehensive peace, which constitutes an Arab strategic option.Reviewing the developments of the Renaissance Dam issue, Safadi affirmed the Kingdom's support for Sudan and Egypt in their efforts to protect their water rights by reaching a comprehensive agreement in accordance with international law that preserves the rights of all parties, stressing that Sudan's and Egypt's water security is part of Arab national security.The two ministers agreed to continue communication to identify practical steps aimed to achieve "quick" progress in efforts to deepen cooperation, which would positively affect the two brotherly countries and peoples.
