Jordan- FM, Egyptian counterpart demand Israel to stop provocative attacks

(MENAFN - Jordan News Agency) Amman, Apr. 25 (Petra)- Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi and his Egyptian counterpart, Sameh Shoukry, discussed the "dangerous" developments in the occupied city of Jerusalem, and urged Israel to stop all attacks and provocative measures to defuse tension and restore calm.Speaking over the phone on Sunday, the two ministers condemned acts of violence and incitement carried out by Jewish extremist groups against the Palestinians in occupied Jerusalem, and demanded Israel, as the occupying power, to stop the moves "immediately."On joint diplomacy, the two ministers affirmed their continued efforts and contacts with the international community to push Israel to shoulder its responsibilities in accordance with international law and to provide protection to the Palestinians, according to a press statement.Safadi and Shoukry warned of the escalation of attacks and provocative actions against Jerusalemites and obstructing their access to Al-Aqsa Mosque / Al-Haram Al-Sharif, which has increased since the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan.The duo stressed the need to stop these acts and violations that target the Arab, Islamic and Christian identity of Jerusalem and its sanctities and change its existing historical and legal status.The ministers urged the international community to take "feasible" action to break the deadlock in the peace process efforts and return to serious and effective negotiations to achieve a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.Discussing ways to enhance bilateral relations in various fields, the ministers reviewed regional developments in the context of the ongoing coordination and consultation process between the two brotherly countries.Shoukri briefed Safadi on the results of his African tour to discuss developments related to the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.In this context, Safadi affirmed Jordan's full support for Egypt in its efforts to protect its water rights, which are part of Arab national security, and its position aimed to resolve the issue of the Renaissance Dam on the basis of international law and in a manner that preserves the rights of all parties.
