Over 650 illicit migrants saved off Libyan coast

(MENAFN) On Monday, May. 17 the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) stated that over 650 illicit migrants have been saved and sent back to Libya. The UNHCR said earlier Monday on Twitter: "over 650 persons were returned on Sunday to Tripoli by Libyan authorities." The UNHCR noted: "survivors departed aboard 4 rubber boats from Zuwara (Western Libya), and were intercepted/rescued and returned in 2 different disembarkation. UNHCR & IRC (International Rescue Committee) offered urgent humanitarian & medical aid to all survivors." Saved migrants often end up in overfull reception centers over Libya, in spite of constant international calls to shut those centers.
