Shura Council takes part in ASGP-IPU meeting

(MENAFN - The Peninsula) The Association of Secretaries General of Parliaments (ASGP) held an exceptional meeting, through video conference technology, on the role of parliaments and their organisation in the time of pandemic, in parallel with the convening of the 142nd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). The meeting, which concluded its work yesterday, was devoted to exchanging experiences and good practices about parliaments’ work in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, their role in combating the epidemic, and the health and preventive measures taken by each legislative council to regulate parliamentary work with the continued spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Shura Council was represented in this meeting by Secretary-General of the Shura Council H E Fahd bin Mubarak Al Khayarin, who praised the wise directives of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, to the officials to start implementing a package of decisions and precautionary measures and to establish a supreme emergency committee to combat the spread of the pandemic. He reviewed the legislative efforts made by the Shura Council in the State of Qatar, and the structural and organisational measures it took to adapt to the restrictions of social distancing and the medical and preventive precautions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
