New cases top 80k again; active cases cross 8L

After a sharp fall on Monday, fresh Covid-19 cases in India again crossed 80,000 on Tuesday, registering the second highest daily count so far. The number of deaths recorded in the country too rose beyond 1,000 after a gap of three days. The first day of September saw 80,024 new coronavirus infections, taking the total caseload in the country to 37,62,063, as per data collated from state governments.
