Apple is gearing up for some pretty big changes on the next-generation iPhone, and according to a new report, the company is very likely to kill off the controversial notch. At least on some models, that is, as The Elec reveals that Apple plans to give up on the notch and go for a punch-hole display on the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Using a punch-hole display wouldn’t be an industry-first, as Android devices have been relying on this approach for several years already. For the Cupertino-based tech giant, however, the change is significant, as the notch has until now served as the home of its facial recognition system called Face ID. So by giving up on the notch, which was introduced on the iPhone X back in 2017, Apple has to embed the Face ID module into the screen, which is expected to be quite a challenge for screen manufacturers too.
