Genuine Concern or Simple Xenophobia? (Aspen Righini-Nisbet)

The US is planning to ban the usage of in the country due to risk of data collection by the Chinese government. It has already been banned on federal phones. TikTok is a social media app which is currently ranked number 1 in the entertainment section of the app store. In 2018, TikTok merged with Musical.ly after ByteDance bought Musical.ly in 2017. ByteDance is a Chinese  technology company operating a range of content platforms including CapCut, Topbuzz and FaceU. This causes tension with countries such as the US because of China’s data laws.
