Russia toughens legislation used to crack down on opponents

Russia's lawmakers have passed amendments that increase the penalties for "high treason," "terrorism" and "sabotage," among others. These moves come as part of a crackdown on opposition voices. For instance, an opposition politician and Kremlin critic, Vladimir Kara-Murza, was sentenced to 25 years in jail a day before the amendments were passed.
