An entire battalion of the Myanmar army near the Chinese border has surrendered to an alliance of ethnic armed groups that launched an offensive against the military. The surrender of 261 people, including soldiers and their family members, is the largest by regular army forces since conflict broke out in Myanmar in 2021. The alliance plans to capture Laukkaing, the major city in the area. The military government has not announced the surrender.
