Top diplomats from Japan and China meet in South Korea ahead of 3-way regional talks

Japanese and Chinese diplomats met in South Korea to discuss bilateral issues, including the ban on Japanese seafood that has affected Japanese exporters. They agreed to start security and economic meetings to resolve the seafood dispute. China called Japan's release of treated radioactive wastewater into the sea "irresponsible" and called for an independent monitoring mechanism. The foreign ministers of Japan, South Korea, and China will meet to resume their trilateral summit, which has been on hold since 2019 due to COVID-19 and various issues.
