((ang))recently the streets are no strangers to protests and rallies--in a community matters story, eyewitness news reporter grace fernandez talks with a group of women... ((stinger))rallying for a cause. grace? ((grace))from a day without immigrants to a day without women....women around the nation rallied for equal pay, better work hours... protesting the defunding of planned parenthood along with many other causes..
"i will not be complacent" "obviously, the first thing that brought me here is that i am a woman. i'm a woman who is pro choice and i'm for equal rights and equal opportunity." this was the message from women-- not only locally but throughout the rest of the country...weather a stay at home mom or a c.e.o women took the day off work to rally in solidarity.
"it started out just because i wanted to find something in the area to go to and there was nothing for a pretty decent radius."rally organizer, kate castle organized for speakers to touch on feminism, planned parenthood, equal rights for not just women but all."i'm here today because i think it's important that we raise every single individuals voice, women, men, individuals of color disabilities, immigrants, everybody."while the crowd in hamilton today could not compare to immense crowds in larger cities that took over the streets around the nation, the message is universal-- "coming here today is a show of solidarity with women around the world who may not have as much priviledge as i do as a white woman."and while for some it may just appear to be a day off from work. for these women is was the opportunity for them and allies to act together for equity, justice and human rights."we need to band together we need to stand strong for the next 2-4 years to ensure that all individuals rights are respected and heard." ((grace))the national movement was organized by the same women who called together the women's last month. reporting grace fernandez, eyewitness news.
