People in one neighborhood are being-- warned to watch out for a-- spike in car thefts.
Channel 5's christian von preysing explains how they found out.... these people in the pharr subdivision of jackson south estates are being asked to watch the neighborhood themselves... neighbors say a notice from the pharr police department appeared on their doors before the weekend.
The flyer explained the gated subdivision has been the center of car burglaries.
Police saying residents haven't been locking their cars and have been leaving valuables inside.
The flyer is telling people to keep a closer watch.
Some residents found the news surprising.
One man says police should be patrolling around here more often.
"i'm a little surprised that a gated community is having these kinds of problems such as break-ins."
"there's an increase of crime and it would help if there's a little bit more patrolling in our area."
We've attempted to reach out the the pharr police about what they're doing about this and did not get a response.
City management did not respond either.
The flyer encourages people to make contact with their neighbors and report anything suspicious.
Anyone in pharr with someone to report can call local crime stoppers at 787-8477.
