Ford Purchases Detroit Train Depot With Ties To Founder's Family Heritage

According to a report by Automotive News, automaker Ford's purchase of a run-down former train depot in Detroit, meant to be the center of an urban technology campus, carries symbolism that likely contributed to the auto company to undertake such an ambitious project.

The depot, abandoned for 30 years, is located in Detroit's oldest surviving Irish neighborhood, which has ties to company founder Henry Ford's Irish heritage.

Automotive News reports that Henry Ford's heritage had a large influence on his early automobile business decisions.

Ford, whose headquarters in Dearborn are just seven miles west of the depot, reportedly has historical connections to Detroit that go far beyond Corktown.
