Trudeau Claims No Involvement In Huawei Arrest
On Thursday Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced his government had no involvement in the arrest of Meng Wanzhou, top executive from Chinese technology giant Huawei.
Trudeau says Ottawa had been given a few days’ advance notice about the plan to arrest Wanzhou, who faces extradition to the United States.
Through televised remarks to the press in Montreal, Trudeau says, “The appropriate authorities took the decisions in this case without any political involvement or interference."
Reuters reports that when asked whether he had spoken to the Chinese premier or the ambassador, Trudeau confirmed he had had no conversations with international counterparts about the case.
