Chinese Court To Try Canadian On Drug Smuggling Charges

According to a report by Reuters, on Saturday, a government-run news portal said that a Chinese court will try a Canadian citizen on drug charges, in a case that could further strain already difficult relations between Ottawa and Beijing.

The high court in the Northeastern province of Liaoning reportedly said that Robert Lloyd Schelenberg would be tried on drug smuggling charges in Dalian city on Saturday.

The Dalian government news portal reportedly said that Schellenberg was a Canadian citizen and that this was an appeal hearing after he was found by an earlier ruling to have smuggled 'an enormous amount of drugs' into China.
