It's 6:5, time for the morning sprint.

Today's an alert day for snow today, tonight, and into tomorrow morning.

Haddie says we could see up to 8 inches of snow near the illinois state line.

And ahead of single-digit temperatures this weekend... christina lorey shares why you don't need to warm up your car in the winter.

But we start with reports the president might have directed his former attorney, michael cohen, to lie to congress.

Two federal law- enforcement officials told buzzfeed news, president trump directed cohen to lie about when the moscow trump- tower negotiations ended.

The wall street journal is also reporting cohen confirms -- the president directed him to pay thousands of dollars to a technology expert... to rig online polls in trump's favor... ahead of the 20- 16 campaign.

We're still waiting to see whether state republicans will appeal a federal judge's decision... that strikes down early-voting restrictions passed during last month's lame duck session.

Those restrictions would have limited early voting to the two weeks before an election.

Cities like madison and milwaukee allowed voting for six weeks before november's election.

Republican lawmakers said the 2-week limitation would make it more fair for smaller communities that might not have the staffing for a longer early voting period.

Cars made in the past twenty years no longer use carberators... instead, using a fuel injection method that's eliminated the need to warm up your engine.

Triple a recommends letting your car idle for just 15 to 30 seconds... or enough time to fasten your seatbelt, adjust your mirrors, and go.

Just don't speed right away... triple-a also says it's important to drive no faster than 45 miles an hour the first five minutes behind the wheel.

A teenager is facing charges for crashing into a house on the near-east side and causing some area evacuations.

Police say 19- year-old cade hellenbrand hit a home on east dayton street across from lapham elementary school -- and ran into a gas line in the process.

Neighbors had to evacuate, but m-g-and-e crews were able to shut down the leak within 15 minutes.

Sauk county authorities are still searching this morning for 68-year-old robert pulvermacher... the man detectives believe killed a man outside a casino.

We now know it was 88-year-old harold johnson, who was found dead oustside the ho-chunk casino in the town of delton monday.

Pulvermacher has an extensive criminal past... and is known to frequent black jack tables around madison and baraboo.

We are still waiting to learn the identity of the man found dead yesterday morning... in a field in marshall.

Police responded around 9 a-m to reports of a suspicious vehicle in the evergreen village mobile- home park.

About an hour later, a body was found behind the park.

Police say the two are connected.

Multitple agencies are continuing to investigate that case.

A former chicago police officer... convicted of second-degree murder... is set to be sentenced today.

Jason van dyke was found guilty in the 20-14 shooting death of laquan mcdonald.

Dash-cam video shows the 17- year-old with a knife in his hands, moving away from van dyke when he opened fire.

Just yesterday... three other chicago officers were found not guilty... of trying to cover up the mcdonald's murder.

We're continuing to learn new details about the suspect who admitted to abducting 13- year-old jayme closs and killing her parents.

Military records show jake patterson was prematurely discharged from the marines in october of 2015 -- after being there just five weeks.

A spokesperson said this indicates quote "the character of his service was incongruent with marine corps' expectations and standards."

Right now, patterson is being held on a 5-million-dollar bail in a polk county prison.

Jayme closs is on the cover of people magazine on shelves this morning.

The four-page article walks through the day jayme escaped patterson's house.

There's also an interview with her aunt -- talking about what life is like now for jayme...and reaction from other kidnapping survivors who give their take on the recovery process that might lie ahead for jayme.

In honor of martin luther king junior's spirit of brotherhood... there's a free community meal in his honor tonight.

Dinner will include fried and baked chicken, mac and cheese and sweet potato pie.

That's running from 4-30 to 7 tonight at the gordon commons on the u-w campus.

You can stop by, free of charge... and if you need help getting there -- free shuttles are leaving from the y-w-c-a and grace episcopal church downtown.

Parts of east gorham street downtown are still closed this morning after a water main break.
