A state audit will be conducted on the ottawa county sheriff's budget -- after projects show it being short by tens of thousands of dollars.
In october, the budget was projected to be short by more than 100-thousand dollars by the end of the year.
The commission has been working with sheriff floyd to get on track -- and floyd has laid off seven full-time employees, and changed the way patrols are done to conserve fuel.
But, the budget was still short by more than 60-thousand -- prompting floyd to cut pay at the sheriff's office by ten percent.
"if we'd just sat back, not been involved and put our head in the sand, i think we'd be rolling towards a county bankruptcy.
Cause he was on track to run out of money by february..
Dowe: wright hopes the audit will help show what can be done in future years to keep this from happening again.
He doesn't know when it might begin -- but expects it to cost around 15-thousand dollars.
