Beto O'Rourke Says He'd Tear Down US-Mexico Border Wall
Former Democratic Rep.
Beto O'Rourke, who is considering a 2020 presidential run, said he would take down existing border barriers if he were commander-in-chief.
Business Insider reports O'Rourke came under fire for his comments in which he criticized the wall for being ineffective.
On Friday, President Donald Trump announced a national emergency in order build his long-promised US-Mexico border wall.
In an interview with MSNBC Thursday night, O'Rourke responded to a tweet from Republican Rep.
Dan Crenshaw of Texas, who asked, "If you could snap your fingers and make El Paso's border wall disappear, would you?" O'Rourke told MSNBC host Chris Hayes, "Absolutely, I'd take the wall down." He added, "After the Secure Fence Act, we have built 600 miles of wall and fencing on a 2,000 mile border.
What that has done is not in any demonstrable way made us safer."
