Some Olympic Games Will Be Held In Fukushima, Japan
Japan is the next country to take on hosting duties for the Olympics.
Deadspin reports the Tokyo 2020 organizing committee has nicknamed their Games the “Reconstruction Olympics.” The “reconstruction” refers to the effort to rebuild parts of the country that were devastated by the 2011 earthquake, tsunami, and Fukushima nuclear reactor meltdown.
More than 16,000 people were killed in the disasters and approximately 160,000 people evacuated Fukushima.
The Tokyo Olympic organizing committee has announced that the baseball and softball competitions will be held in Fukushima, as will the Olympic torch relay.
The Japanese government has also insisted that it is safe for people to return to their homes in Fukushima.
