Study Finds U.S. Air Pollution Is Caused By White Consumers But Minorities Suffer More

According to a new peer-reviewed study, U.S. air pollution is disproportionately caused by white consumers, but minorities are burdened most by the emissions.

Reuters reported that on average, African-Americans are exposed to about 56 percent more fine particulate matter pollution than is caused by their consumption of goods and services.

Whites are exposed to 17 percent less pollution than is caused by their consumption, which the study calls a “pollution advantage.
