Former Atlanta Archbishop Named To Take Highest U.S. Catholic Post

According to a report by Reuters, on Thursday, Pope Francis named the first African-American to the Catholic Church's highest U.S. position, looking to end a disturbing trend after the two previous men to hold the position were both caught up in sexual abuse scandals.

Former Atlanta archbishop Wilton Gregory was made the new head of the Church in Washington D.C, and is expected to become a cardinal eligible to vote in a conclave to elect the next pope after Francis either dies or resigns.
