Police Say UNC Student Gave Life To Save Other Students In Shooting

Reuters reports a 21-year-old student killed in a shooting at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte on Tuesday saved lives by charging the gunman.

Kerr Putney, chief of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, said at a news conference Wednesday that student Riley Howell of Waynesville, North Carolina, played a key role in ending the attack.

Putney said, “Unfortunately he gave his life in the process.

His sacrifice saved lives.
