Throughout our lord our son who lives with you in the unity of the holy spirit one god forever and ever, amen.

Our first reading from acts of.

Some come down from instructings am bothers unless you are circumcised be cannot be saved there is little dissension and debate by paul with them.

It was the decided that paul and some of the others should go up to jerusalem.

To the apostels and elders about this question.

The apostlels in agreement with the church decided to choose representatives and send them with paul and barn bus.

The ones chosen were dudeus leaders among the brother this is is the letter delivered by them.

>> the apostles and the elders your brothers to the brothers in antioch.

Of gentile or greetings.

Since we have heard that some of our numbers who went out without man date for us haveup set you with their teachings and disturbed your peace of mind.

We have with one aaccord decided to choose representatives and send them to you along with our beloved barnbus and paul who dedicated their lives to the lord jesus christ.

We are sending them with the message by word of mouth it is the decision of the holy spirit and snapped to place on burden beyond these necessities.

Namely, to abstain from sacrifice to idles from blood, from meat of strangled animals and unlawful marriage if you keep free of these you will do what is right.

Farewell.

The word of the lord.

Our response this morning.

O god.

Let all the nations praise you.

>> >> may god have pity on us.

May he let us face shine upon us.

So -- may your way be known upon earth among all nations your salvation.

>> o god.

All the nations praise you.

>> may the nations be glad and exalt you rule the people and equity.

The nations on the earth you guide, o god let all the nations praise you.

>> may the peoples praise you, god, may all the peoples praise you.

May god bless you and may all the earth fear him.

O god let all the nations praise you.

>> our second read thanksgiving morning is a reading from the book of revelation.

>> the angel took me in spirit to a great high mountain.

And showed me the holy city jerusalem.

Coming down out of heaven from god.

The gleams with the splendor of god.

Its radiance like that of a precious stone, jasper, clear as crystal.

It had a massive high wall, with 12 gates.

12 angels were stationed and on which come were inscribed the names of the 12 tribes of the isrealites.

Three gates facing each three north.

Three south and three west.

The wall of the city, had 12 courses of stones as its foundation.

On which were inscribed the 12 names of the 12 apostels of the land.

I saw no temple in the city.

The temple is the lord, god.

Almighty and [inaudible] the city had no need of sun or moon to shine on it the glory of god gave it light and the lamp was the lamb.

The word of the lord.

Thanks be to god.

Lord be in your heart, limited partners and proclaim this gospel in the same of the father, son and holy spirit, amen.

Alleluia.

Alleluia.

Who loves me will keep my word says the lord and my father am love him and he will come to him.

Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia [singing] the lord be with you.

And with your spirit.

From the holy gospel according to john.

>> glory to you, lord.

>> jesus said, who loves me will keep my word and my father will love him and we will come and make our dwelling with him.

Who does not love me, does not keep my words yet the word you hear is not mine.

But that.

The father who sent me.

I told you this while i'm with you.

The advocate the holy spirit the father will send in my name will teach you everything and remind you of all that i told you.

Peace i leave with you, my peace i give you.

Not as the world gives do i give it to you.

Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.

You heard me tell you, i'm going away and i will come back to you.

If you love me, you will rejoice that i'm going to the father.

For the father is greater than i.

And now, i told you this benefit it happens, so when it happens, you may believe.

>> the gospel of the lord.

>> praise to you lord jesus christ.

>> it is good to be with you again this morning.

You know just just as jesus prepared his disciples for the time of his going to the father and his father's sending of the holy spirit, he prepares us for the same as we approach the end of the easter season; next weekend, we will celebrate the ascension of the lord; the weekend after that, we will celebrate pentecost; like the disciples, we can have some trepidation about not being able to see jesus, our redeemer, in our human form; like the disciples, we can be comforted knowing that jesus assures us that god has sent us ?the advocate, the holy spirit?; our faith teaches us that the holy spirit is the third person of the holy trinity; in our minds, when we envision god the father, we likely think of a paternal grandfatherly-looking person on a throne in heaven; when we envision jesus christ the son, we might think of a younger man with long hair and a beard resembling many of the images from art or the images we see on crucifixes; knowing that jesus christ was fully human just like us we can connect with him; what do we see when we envision the holy spirit?

Who or what were the disciples to look for in the holy spirit that jesus assured god the father would send?

How do we recognize the holy spirit in our lives?

We are given some idea of the holy spirit in the nicene creed which we will profess in a few minutes; ?i believe in the holy spirit, the lord, the giver of life?; from this, we know that the holy spirit has a connection to god and has played a role in all creation, including human life; ?who proceeds from the father and the son?; from this, we know that the holy spirit is part of the holy trinity; ?who with the father and the son is adored and glorified?; from this, we know that the holy spirit is to be praised, just as we praise god the father and jesus christ the son; while we might embrace that the holy spirit is the third person of the holy trinity, we are still faced with the challenge of recognizing the holy spirit and the work of the holy spirit in each of our lives; when we envision the holy spirit, what comes to mind?

Perhaps the image of a peaceful dove; perhaps the image of a ?tongue of fire?; the nicene creed and today's scripture readings provide a guide for recognizing the holy spirit, the advocate sent by god in the name of jesus christ; according to the nicene creed, the holy spirit ?has spoken through the prophets?; in today's gospel, jesus tells his disciples that the holy spirit will teach them everything and remind them of all that jesus told them; speaking, teaching and reminding are all normal human interactions; thus, we should look for the holy spirit in our interactions with others, including our interactions with god; think of the sacraments of our church and how, in each sacrament, the holy spirit flows through a human interaction:; the pouring of water on a person during baptism; the absolving of sins during reconciliation; being in the presence of and receiving holy eucharist; receiving the gift of the holy spirit during confirmation; becoming one flesh with another person in matrimony; receiving the healing spirit during anointing of the sick; receiving the graces of ordination during holy orders; but also think of everyday interactions with others that are part of our daily life; think of those first christians that had a pretty significant disagreement on whether all followers of jesus, even those who were not jewish, should follow jewish laws, especially the requirement for circumcision; after much discussion among christians in various early communities, we just heard in the acts of the apostles, ?it is the decision of the holy spirit and of us not to place on you any burden beyond these necessities, namely, to abstain from meat sacrificed to idols, from blood, from meats of strangled animals, and from unlawful marriage.?

In spite of differing opinions on a significant issue, those early christians interacted they spoke with, taught and reminded each other with a spirit of mercy, compassion and understanding, to reach a resolution that they recognized came not just from them, but from the holy spirit; as we near the end of the easter season and prepare for the feasts of the ascension, when jesus returned to the father, and pentecost, when the holy spirit came to us and formed us into the church, may we prayerfully discern how that holy spirit is not only present in our lives, but is working through our lives; in all of our normal human interactions with others, may we, like those first christians, strive to show mercy, compassion and understanding to all others and may we be open to receiving that mercy, compassion and understanding from others; using words from the rite of confirmation, may we ?be sealed with the gift of the holy spirit?.

>> we profess or faith.

I believe in one god.

The father almighty, maker of hen and earth.

Of all things visible and invisible.

I basketball in jesus christ the begot know son of god.

The father before all ages god from god, light from light, true god from true got.

Begotten not made through him all things were made for us men and salvation he came down from heaven and was incarbonate of the visualin mayor and he became man.

He was crews us under ponchos pilot suffered death and buried and rose on the third day in accordance of the script urs.

Ash sended to hen and seated at the right hand of the father will come in gloer tow judge the living and dead and kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the holy spirit lord the giver of life who proceeds from the father and the son.

Who with the father and son adovered and glowified and spoken through the profits.

I believe in one holy catholic church, i confess one baptism for forgiveness of sins and look forward the resurrection of the dead and the world to come.

Amen.

>> we worship our god of life and love.
