Through our lord jesus christ, your son lives and reigns with you and the unity of the holy spirit.

One god forever and ever.

>> amen.

>> a reading from the book of proverbs.

>> thus says the wisdom of god, the lord possessed me, the beginning of his ways, the forerunner of his prodigies of long ago.

From of old i was poured forth, at the first, before the earth.

When there were no deaths, i was brought forth.

When there were no fountains or springs of water, before the mountains were settled into place.

Before the hills, i was brought forth.

While as yet the earth and fields were not made, nor the first clause of the world.

When the lord established the heavens, i was there.

When he marked out the vault over the face of the deep, when he made from the skies above, when he fixed fast the foundations of the earth, when he set for the sea its limit, so that the waters should not transgress his command.

Then was i beside him as his craftsman, and i was his delight day by day.

Playing before him all the while, playing on the surface of his earth, and i found delight in the human race.

The word of the lord.

>> thanks be too god.

>> o lord, our god, how wonderful your name in all the earth.

>> o lord, our god, how wonderful your name in all the earth.

>> when i behold your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars which you set in place, what is man that you should be mindful of him, or the son of man that you should care for him?

>> o lord, our god, how wonderful your name in all the earth!

>> you have made him little less than the angels.

And crowned him with glory and honor.

You have given him role over the works of your hands, putting all things under his feet.

>> o lord, our god, how wonderful your name in all the earth!

>> all sheep and oxen, yes, and the beasts of the field.

The birds of the air, the fishes of the sea, and whatever swims the paths of the disease.

>> o lord, our god, how wonderful your name in all the earth!

>> a reading from the letter of st.

Paul to the romans.

>> brothers and sisters, therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with god through our lord jesus christ.

To whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we stand.

And we boast in hope of the glory of god.

Not only that, but we even boast of our afflictions, knowing that affliction produces endurance and endurance proven character.

Proven character, hope, and hope does not disappoint.

Because the love of god has been poured out into our hearts to the holy spirit that has been given to us.

Thanks be too god.

>> hallelujah, hallelujah.

>> glory to the father, the son and the holy spirit, to god who is, who was and who is to come.

>> hallelujah, hallelujah.

Reading from the holy gospel according to john.

>> glory to you oh lord.

>> jesus said to his disciples i have much more to tell you but you cannot bear it now.

But when he comes, the spirit of truth will guide you into all truth.

He will not speak on his own, but he will speak what he hears, and will declare to you the things that are coming.

He will glorify me, because he will take from what is mine and declare it to you.

Everything that the father has is mine, for this reason i told you that he will take from what is mine and declare it to you.

>> the gospel of the lord.

>> praise to you, lord jesus christ.

>> sisters and brothers, on this great feast of the trinity, we encountered the mystery of all mysteries.

Which really underlies our faith and our whole of our spiritual lives.

We know that actually the word trinity never appeared and appears in the new testament.

It's a word that was given to us by a christian philosopher by the name of tertullian about 115 years after jesus resurrection.

It was the earliest part of the church, beyond even tertullian that the great leaders of the church wrestled with this whole identity of knowing about father, about son, and the holy spirit.

That hope in that dynamic of who god is.

So it was finally defined as in our faith as the council of nicaea in the year 325.

The very creed that we will again proclaim together in just a few moments.

That creed that helps us to know to the best of our ability and to enter into this mystery of our triune god.

You know a few years ago when there were some revisions of the language, of the missile, that all of a sudden there was this rather fancy and sometimes hard to really say word called consubstantial that appeared in our creed.

It is a word that maybe by now it easily rolls off of our tongues but it's a word that reminded from webster's dictionary that means of one substance.

The way really talking about and defining in a single word, who this trinity is.

Of father, son and holy spirit.

This god who is one god with three very different distinct persons.

Another image we know from saint patrick used the shamrock.

The three leaves to be able to in one plant, one leaf be able to talk about the trinity years ago.

We then think about the our bodies that we all have a head, hands, feet and we have different parts that are all different parts of our bodies but still just one body.

So a little ways that we delve into this mystery of this blessed trinity.

Always consubstantial, the community of faith who is our god.

I think one of the things i reflect on with the whole understanding of the trinity and especially flowing from the gospel, we just heard where jesus was preparing his disciples that he was no longer going to be with them in the same way.

Getting ready to say goodbye in a sense.

What it reminds me of is that if jesus was doing for them, thinking about experiences that anyone of us have had of caring for another person.

Having the responsibility for another person or persons.

I think of parents with children.

I think of sometimes we think of our sick family members that receive a very special kind of care in their vulnerability.

We think of maybe a lonely neighbor, we think about teachers and nurses, caregivers and so many different people who are charged with that care and being able to assure a person that the responsible for after safety.

Of their constant kind of care.

On this father's day, think of definitely my father who after my mother's rather unexpected death in 1989 that i had a privilege of caring for my father for the next two years before he died.

In 1992.

My father was moving more deeply into dementia and parkinson's.

As much as i strove to be able to reassure him that he was cared for it got to the point that i needed to entrust him to other caregivers.

To be able to assure him in doing so of his own safety and his own care that he would have and at that time i was a pastor saint albert in the prairie in the willows nursing home was a wonderful place that had an opening for him.

A great place for him that became very comfortable because he knew he was safe.

And cared for.

That is our god's message to us.

No matter what we face and we all know that this relationship with the lord, this christian faith is not only, not always easy.

That life is not easy.

That life has its up and downs and definite challenges and sometimes it seems like it all comes at once to us.

But it is that assurance that the lord be his disciples, no matter what i'm always with you.

Trust me.

It was that assurance that paul was giving in the second meeting today.

Again ensuring that at the early church that the persevere and even in the hardships of the difficulties, they would face as the young christians that god was always there and life wouldn't always be easy but god would lead them to eternal life.

I'm always with you.

That's when i think of the trinity.

Those wonderful ways of how our heavenly father, our son jesus and holy spirit.

How many times we make those gestures about our own lives.

Father, son, holy spirit.

Public: those trinitarian faith in substantial kind of ways.

It's the very truth that at the end of this mass i will then also bless you in the name of the church, the name of the father, the son and the holy spirit as we have celebrated this great gift of faith and know that we are sent to step back into our lives, whatever that might mean to know that the lord is always with us.

It's a great assurance, great goodness as we celebrate this very powerful underlying truth of our faith of our whole spiritual lives.

Our dependency, our faithfulness to god.

[music] >> we profess this great faith.

I believe in one god, the father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one lord jesus christ.

The only begotten son of god, born of the father before all ages.

God from god, light from light, true god from true god.

Begotten, not made consubstantial with the father.

Through him all things were made.

For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven.

By the holy spirit was incarnate of the virgin mary and became man.

For our sake he was crucified under pontius pilate.

He suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day.

In accordance with the scriptures.

He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the holy spirit, the lord, the giver of life who proceeds from the father and the son.

Who with the father in the son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one holy catholic and apostate church.

Baptism for the givenness of sins and i look forward to the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come.

He took bread and giving thanks he broke it and gave it to his disciples saying take this, all of you and eat of it.

For this is my body which will be given up for you.

>> in a similar way he took the chalice and once more giving thanks and give it to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from it.

For this is the chalice of my blood, the blood of new and eternal covenant which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins.
