People nearly drowned in starkville in recent weeks.... w-t-v-a's nicole dantzler is live in oktibbeha county with who those swimmers were and what you need to know to save a life if you encounter such a situation.

All of those near drownings happened since may 18th.

And the three were treated here at o-c-h regional medical center.

The hospital said that number is higher than normal for the city because the emergency room usually sees only one or two cases like this a year.

Hospital critical care manager eddie coats pointed out the key to these recent near drownings is when c-p-r was started on these three.

"in two cases the cpr was initiated almost immediately in both of those cases and had a great outcome.

Those two children walked out of the hospital and went home."

Coats said in the third near drowning, c-p-r was delayed and the teen is now in critical condition.

His advice to parents closely watch their kids in the water, childproof swimming areas at home and turn kiddie pools and buckets upside down.

It only take a couple inches of water and thirty seconds for a child to drown.
