Tony Blair compares UK-US relationship to Premier League football

Former Prime Minister Tony Blair compares the UK's relationship with the US to Premier League sides Newcastle and Manchester City respectively.

Tony Blair "One of the weird things about this debate is people seem to think that self-belief can overcome reality.

"Are you saying it's equal between the United States and Britain?

It's not.

"It's not like you're saying Britain is not a good country.

It's saying, you know, Manchester City are playing Port Vale - they're likely to win." Mr Blair then clarified: "We're not Port Vale, we're more like, maybe, Newcastle." Mr Blair said Labour should throw its weight behind supporting legislation to prevent a no-deal Brexit, not a vote of no confidence in the Government.
